VidToText is a tool that transcribes video or audio into text. This policy covers
both the VidToText web app and the VidToText Chrome extension (which simply opens the
web app). Our approach is simple: your media is processed on your own device,
and we do not collect, store, sell, or transmit your personal data.
What we collect
Nothing. VidToText has no accounts server, no analytics, no
trackers, and no advertising. We, the developers, do not receive any of your data.
How your data is handled
Audio & video you provide is decoded and transcribed
locally in your browser using the Whisper speech-recognition model. The media itself
is not uploaded to us.
Transcripts, summaries, translations, and history are stored
only in your browser (via local storage / IndexedDB) on your device. You can delete
them at any time from within the app.
Sign-in is a local profile — you enter an email only to
personalize the app on your device. It is not sent to any server and is not a real
account.
Third-party services (only when you choose to use them)
Model download: the first time you transcribe, the Whisper
model files are downloaded from the Hugging Face CDN (huggingface.co /
cdn.jsdelivr.net) and cached in your browser. This is a standard file download; no
personal data is sent.
YouTube links: if you paste a YouTube URL, the audio is fetched
through public third-party extractor services (Invidious / Piped instances) so it can
be transcribed on your device. Those third-party services have their own policies.
Optional transcription server: if you turn on the optional
"faster server" feature and enter a server address, the audio is sent to that server
(one you or we set up) solely to produce a transcript, then discarded. This is
off by default.
Optional cloud save (Supabase): if you use "Connect database"
and enter your own Supabase project URL and key, transcripts you choose to save are
stored in your Supabase database so you can access them across devices. This is off
by default, and the database belongs to you.
We do not sell or transfer your data to third
parties, do not use your data for anything unrelated to transcription,
and do not use your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
Data retention & deletion
Because data stays on your device, you are in control. Clearing it is immediate:
use the app's "Clear all" button, or clear the site's data in your browser settings.
Children's privacy
VidToText is a general-purpose utility and does not knowingly collect any personal
information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new
"Last updated" date.
